Thoughts On Transitions

Not For The Weak In Stomach

A word of warning, for this entry I am going to talk about our cat litter box. In my past blog entries I have marveled about how some electrical appliances (vacuum cleaner, washer and dryer, dishwasher etc) in american households we only read in books and imported magazines in the Philippines have made life a lot easier for me more than I imagined.

Well last month, we took a gamble and bought another gadget Tom and, of course, me don't know zip about. A an automatic cat litter with sensors.

Would you believe it works? It's not perfect, but it really does keep litter box cleaning to a minimum. Here's how it goes:

Sensor is activated when cat steps into the "box" and does its thing (no Carlo, it's not the smell but the weight - of the cat). After 30 minutes the litter gets to work. What happens is that 30 minutes is enough time for the "affected" litter (clumping litter only) to harden, the base rotates, and the solidified litter is scooped out by the rake.

The rake brings it to the receptacle which opens to receive the load.

Load is then dumped into the receptacle.

What usually is an everyday cleaning is now reduced to twice a week. That makes Tom one happy puppy

Now our problem is to make this litter box as unobtrusive as possible. Up to now we are still debating where to permanently place it in our condo. I am seriously thinking of training Wapshot to do his thing in the toilet bowl, reminiscent of that cat in the movie "Meet The Parents". 2 books from our public library assures me that it's doable. We'll see

Yesterday I took Gboy and Rohan to the bigger park by the lake after work. The weather was great at the mid 70's (24C), it was warm enough for me to take out my capri and for Gboy & Rohan to wear shorts. Photos are in Rohan's Album. I know that this will make the lola and tita back home happy
