Blog'niversary: The Year In Review (1 Of 3 series)

It's been a year since I posted my first entry:

"Finally, I have succumbed to fad, prodding of some friends and the need to record the many, many going ons in my life that I got myself a blog. What an ugly sounding word. I am reluctant, skeptical but I will give it a shot."
176 entries later, gave it a shot I did.

Feb '05 - '06 Highlights

Happy puppy. Tom, me and my fresh from the Philippines 2 year old nephew at the Madison Zoo last May 2005. He and his parents are now settled in Philadelphia.

As much as I liked the idea of having a diary for posterity I have never been able to maintain it for long. Looking back this may be because I never really liked writing by hand since I tire easily, my penmanship is oftentimes illegible making it hard for me to find pleasure in rereading whatever I wrote. To the best of my knowledge I have had about 3-4 diaries: 6th grade, 3rd year high school and a couple in college, none of them made it past page 10.

As I was reviewing my blog entries earlier it gave me such a sense of accomplishment for having recorded what to me were interesting things about my new life in the US, they be big and small. But what I especially liked about having this blog is that I was able to jot down the highlights and the exciting things that happened to Tom and I in the year that passed. Just the kind of contents I would like my diary to have.

There was the move to our new condo and the mixed emotions of selling the old one. The what seemed to be surreal arrival of my brother and his family here in the US for good, as far as I recall this was never part of our plans when we were young. Having them stay with us for a month was one of the most enjoyable times of my life here in america.

This was also the year that I got to meet the many filipinas who I initially knew through the internet and made them real life friends. There was In-in, Rose and Cielito from Chicago, Anamarie from Texas, Lanie and Kim from Michigan, Rhebs from Florida and the dinner party I held for her with Judy and the other filipinas, then there was lunch with a big filipino group from the fil-west forum I frequent. Another first for me was hosting a 23 person dinner for both Tom and my friends.

I thought the 1st anniversary of our church wedding was just going to be slightly a notch special than most days, until my husband suprised me with a simple but very romantic gesture. We also celebrated our 2nd civil pre-wedding anniversary with a trip to Door County. Tom now speculates that this was where our baby was conceived. Then of course, the happy news that we're pregnant!

It has been a very good year.

Blog'niversary: The Year In Review series continues with a compilation of my favorite entries and America 101 next...

I never thought that online journal is something that I will enjoy. In fact, I'm really addicted to it in the fast few months. To the point where I even loose control of what's ok to be posted and what's not. My hubby thinks it's silly that I take pictures of everything and sits in front of the PC for 30 minutes to an hour just trying to express myself and post everything that's going on about me. I don't know, but I'm sure it'll take the biggest bully in the world to really discourage me from doing it.

In, you are right, it is very convenient way of keeping updated with our friend's latest activities and makes it so much easier to talk on their next meeting. I would think like...I wonder what In and Ryan are up to, and it's just a click away:)

Ed, do you have access to your grandpa's journal? I would have loved to have read from my ancestors lives if they had one. You are right, the computer and the internet are heavensent.

Agring, thanks for the wishes.

Lanie, I always consider it a blessing when people with genuine hearts like you open their doors of friendship to me. Friends with a heart of gold are hard to find.

Judy, coming from you that's a very high compliment. Thank you!

Ger:

I have never read any blogs until I came across yours. I truly enjoy reading it but moreso, I have learned a lot of straight & direct informations about Fil-Am relationships and culture. If there's any word to describe your blog, I would say it's very much down-to-earth. You write with your heart.

Congratulations, more power and keep blogging!

Ger, as usual your post is always productive. It is my honored to be included as one of your friends. Reading your post about you guys visit with us last year the memory it came back to me. I do miss you and your company. You are just so sweet and honest person. I am very lucky to have you as my friend, you're always there for me. I have to admit I admired you very much, aside from your talent you are very down to earth person. The painting that you give Triz is one of a kind treasure that someone can have, for me it is the most precious gift from you. I am very proud of that painting and tell everyone that is made by you for Triz. Everytime I see the painting on top of our fireplace it remind me of you. So, you see, you become part of our household. ~_^

PS: Pls, delete the first post. Sorry. :D

I have kept a written journal since college and my father and grandfather have had journals for the last sixty years so it is in the family. But like you, I think I needed to expand to a different medium where writing was easier and editing allowed. Pen on paper is difficult to edit or expand upon. Blogging has really grown on me and over the last year and a half, I think I have grown because of it.

Anyway, happy anniversary. Keep on blogging and keep posting on the Fil/West forum because I always enjoy reading your comments.
