The Superslide Adventure

One of our favorite family places in Madison is their free zoo with their free play area:

Awesome slide huh? It's about 3 storeys high. But to go to the top and slide down, he has to climb through this:

I don't know what they call it but it's some sort of a net/stairs.

On his birthday last month Evan attempted to climb to the top but he got rattled with the many, bigger, much older, rambunctious kids scrambling and shouting around him. He was stuck at the top where I/we couldn't see him for around 15 minutes. Finally, after checking the second floor for the umpteenth time I saw a scared Evan seemingly trapped behind the "cage", in tears. When he saw me he grabbed the net and cried "mommeeee!" while other kids went pass by him non-stop.

I immediately went inside to guide him out, very thankful that I have lost weight otherwise I would have never managed to fit in there. I was furious with my husband for allowing him to go inside the netted stairs in the first place because it was exactly what I feared would happen. There were other areas he could play, like climbing the netted ladder:

Or this intermediate slide:

And so that was what he did for the rest of that visit.

But when we went back there last week, the cage with it's woven platform was the first thing he headed for again and this time he was ready. Here is Evan about to set a foot on the super slide.

And out he went, safe and sound.

Yes!

 Repeat procedure 10 times.

Mommy and daddy are proud of you son! You're almost a big boy now.

Woman, yes, I think this might be his most favorite playground yet.

Ed, I would be too panicked to ever think of asking (bribing) another child to help Evan down. That's good thinking :)

Lily, I'm sure Kami's crying was more of fright than anything. Tell Dandan to come over and visit us :) That goes for you too hehe

Auee, yeah, it was more of being intimidated by the older kids, he has already tried the net/stair thing shortly after he turned 2 and he was fine. But they didn't have bigger and more kids around in that park.

Haha, I can imagine the aching! I tried it with Evan too, I hated the crawling under the wooden tunnel the most, it was very painful to my knees!

Aww well done Evan!

He lost his confidence coz of the kids passing him by & probably at a fast rate. pogiBoy is like that too before & even up to now sometimes.

Hay natawa ko when you said you're thankful about losing weight... When pogiBoy was 3 and we went to an indoor playground, ayayay. I was climbing with him and holes were as tiny as the one you showed on the pictures. I was aching everywhere at the end of the day. Full-body workout, from my calves to my biceps & fingers. Walk, run, crawl -- ggaaadd the crawling.
:-D

Our kids are growing up too fast!

Great job, Evan! Dan2 saw me view this pics and asked me if this was in Maine. When I told him it was far he told me we should go on a plane and check this place out...Looks like alot of fun, Ger.
I took Dan2 and Kami to the school's playground nearby and Kami couldn't stop going on the slide. She was having a blast. I was busy taking a pic of Dan that I didn't realized she fell face first until she let out a scream. Ain't I a good mother!
Our kids are growing up fast and sometimes I look at Dan2 amazed my little boy is now big!

I remember Little Abbey's first time on the net stair thing. Unfortunately, I was too big to come after her when she got tearfully stuck part way up and had to bribe one of the older kids to help her down to where I could reach her. Probably three months later, she mastered it. However, up at the top, there is a net bridge between the tunnel and the slide and she has yet to brave that. Instead she just hangs out in the tunnel for awhile and then comes back down the net ladder.

It's always fun seeing our child master a new skill at the playground. Last month it was the toad stool-like steps going up to a lower slide.
